As the seasons change, our bodies are simultaneously adapting to changes in environment; we spend more time indoors during wintertime and we tend to develop a greater appetite. Herbalife nutrition consultant and registered dietician, Susan Bowerman provides helpful tips on how to avoid winter weight gain through careful eating habits. Her advice includes the following:
- Since we might crave for more comfort food and warm beverages, we should watch our portions and remain consistent in our exercise routines.
- Vegetables and fruits are encouraged so that they can balance out the higher calories of some of the heavier winter dishes. They will also keep our immune system healthy and our bodies hydrated.
- Spicy foods can warm us up and food items such as garlic, chili and pepper can help us fight winter’s chill.
