A new Harvard and Univ. of Montreal study links pesticide exposure to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). 4.5 million kids in the US diagnosed with ADHD, 3% increase per year since 1997. The pesticide studied was organophosphate, and the study of over 1,000 kids found that kids with the highest level of exposure to this pesticide had 2x greater chance of ADHD diagnosis. The study showed association rather than cause and effect. Children might be more sensitive to environmental exposure from pesticides since they are small and have developing bodies. Ways to minimize pesticide exposure: wash and peel all produce; try fresh and frozen organic foods; read the labels. And recognize that this is just one piece of the puzzle. From CBS News.
