Paul Greenberg, author of the bestseller “Four Fish,” has a kitchen garden on his terrace in the financial district of Manhattan. You can see Ground Zero from his doorstep. He often gardens with his 3 year old son Luke underfoot.
The Ground Zero Garden can be challenging because even though it is on a high floor it is surrounded by skyscrapers that block the light, it can be windy, and there isn’t a lot of horizontal space. Paul is a frugal and resourceful kitchen gardener. He describes the creative thinking that goes into turning a bookshelf he found in the trash into a container garden for greens, and turning old screen doors into light reflectors.
We will be following Ground Zero Garden throughout the seasons. Check out Ground Zero Garden: Spring.
