Lunch Encounters of the Third Kind

This spoof video was inspired by the sci-fi classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and directed by Shalini Kantayya. It raises awareness about school lunch in support of One Tray, the national campaign to improve child nutrition by encouraging a more direct connection between local farms and schools through federal nutrition policy. The organization has launched a petition to Congress urging support for Farm to School policy using this video as a tool.

The petition supports:

Mandatory funding for Farm to School Programs (S. 3123, H.R. 4710)
Increased Reimbursement Rates for school meals Strengthened Nutrition Standards for School Meal Programs and competitive foods such as vending machines and fast food outlets in school cafeterias

Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan has taken the Farm to School videos on the road as an example of the incredible advocacy work happening around the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act.

For more information and to sign the petition visit www.OneTray.org.

Figuring out the impact of food on the body truly is a moment of enlightenment! Great job capturing that in a way that addresses the prevalence of the issue while incorporating aspects of humor!
